The Antonine Wall began construction under the Roman emperor Antoninus Pius in 142 AD. This military defense spanned 37 mi across central Scotland, from Bo'ness to Old Kilpatrick. Gaining World Heritage Site status in 2008, the remains of the wall are still visible over various sections of its original course.
